Dimensions (69.53 x 121.9 cm)
This is the second work from a three-piece series reflecting on where I grew up, which is part of an ongoing project to make work related to places lived through stain painting techniques. On the surface, there was a strong structure but in many ways, it was skin deep with chaos underneath it. In this work, there was an attempt to control the imprints of the stains from the paint into the canvas through using tape and when the painting was completed, the tape was removed to show what had been left preserved. Despite best efforts, the staining still penetrated canvas underneath the tape.

About Nathaniel Kraft
My art process is driven by the desire to bring suppressed feelings, memories, and ideas to the surface through abstraction. Specific themes being explored in the work deal with personal and public space around family dynamics and individual growth.
