Rusiñol and Utrillo’s friendship became closer after 1880, and together with Casas, Clarasó and Canudas they became an almost inseparable quintet. In the spring of 1889, Utrillo left for Paris to become the art correspondent for the newspaper La Vanguardia. Shortly thereafter, when Rusiñol also left for the French capital, both friends moved into a house on Rue de l’Orient in the company of Canudas and Clarasó. Utrillo introduced Rusiñol to many Parisian artists of the day and initiated him into the bohemian atmosphears of Montmartre, with which he was very familiar from his days as a student.
