Farm near Duivendrecht

Before Piet Mondrian found fame in the abstract and Neo-plasticism movements his work was firmly rooted in landscapes. While Mondrian had already began working his way into abstraction he would sometimes return to the subject of the Farm near Duivendrecht. The first sketch of the farm was done around 1905 while nine more of twenty painting of the farm where done much later during World War I almost a decade after he began working in abstract.
