Hunters of Skagen
1898 · oil on canvas
Dimensions 145.5 × 255.5 cm
Collection: Art Whisperer
The Hunters of Skagen follows a style of genre painting which Kroyer had really come to make his own after moving to the Skagen community by painting groups of personal friends involved in social activities together. The group of hunters resting after the hunt includes Krøyer himself in the extreme right (lying) and Michael Ancher seated left of, and above, him. Others left to right: Degn Brøndum, owner of Brøndum hotel, is at the extreme left, architect Ulrik Plesner (lying on his stomach), artist Einar Hein, Skagen's city treasurer Hans Brodersen, and overplantør C.F. Dahlerup.
