In the Sea
Arnold Bocklin
1883 · Oil on panel
Dimensions 86.5 × 115 cm
Collection: Art Whisperer
Far removed from the Impressionist movement or Academic art which was popular in his time, Böcklin often drew upon classic mythology for his paintings but with his own twists upon the old classical themes. Böcklin's oddly portrayed imaginings of classical themes made him an important figure in the symbolist movement as well as a large influence amongst the Surrealists.
