La Pintura (Painting)
1894 · Oil on canvas
Dimensions 139.8 × 190.3 cm
Collection: Museus de Sitges
When he returned to Pisa and Florence in 1894, the influence on Rusiñol of Italian primitives ended up materialising in three large panels which hang from the pointed lunettes at the top of the Gran Saló (Main Hall), which were designed to decorate this space in Cau Ferrat. We are referring to the famous allegories of La Pintura (Painting), La Música (Music) and La Poesia (Poetry). They were all executed in Paris between 1894 and 1895, and today all three compositions are regarded as Rusiñol’s particular contribution to the Symbolist movement, which was highly fashionable in Europe at the turn of the century, and with which the artist identified for years.
