Along with Carrion Wake Up, Masking is an oil painting inspired by the Surrealist method of art making called Automatism. Said to unlock the subconscious mind through spontaneous image making, this method allowed me to come up with this particular composition. I have a couple of YouTube videos which document both this painting and Carrion Wake Up. They both went through many (sometimes funny) changes to get to where I left them! A really fun painting to make, Masking brought me a strange sense of comfort when I made it and serves as a reminder to me to confirm that inner source of light and creativity.
