Pont Transbordeur, Marseilles
1929 · Gelatin silver print
Dimensions 47.4 × 35.8 cm
In 1929 Laszlo Moholy-Nagy traveled to Marseilles for the celebration of a large steel transporter bridge. The event was attended by a number of avante-garde photographers which were drawn to the criss crossing girders and the twisting spiral staircases. Moholy-Nagy used a reverse printing technique to highlight, contrast and bolden the structure while simultaneously abstracting the image to an almost unrecognizable point.
