Believed to be the earliest known portrait of George Frideric Handel who was documented to own several other Denner paintings that were handed down to his estate after his passing. While the painting is undated, Denner had visited London from Hamburg on two separate occasions between 1721-1725 and again between 1726-1728. The style of Handels wig along with his attire would have been at the forefront of fashion during this later visit.
