1900 · oil on canvas

Dimensions 70.5 × 77.4 cm

The painting is painted in a pointillist technique. The person portrayed is placed on the right, facing the viewer, while she is studying a book in the light of a kerosene lamp. She is dressed in a pink dress, so-called health clothing, and has simply put the hair on. The table on the left partly shows the kerosene lamp, placed next to a vase of roses on a table covered with a floral cloth. Flowers in a large vase in the background are visually incorporated into the pattern of the decorative wallpaper.
