Retrat de Santiago Rusiñol caracteritzat com el cavaller de la mà al pit d'El Greco (Portrait of Santiago Rusiñol, as El Greco's The Knight with the Hand in his Breast)
c. 1897 · Charcoal pencil and ink powder on paper
Dimensions 51 × 32.5 cm
Collection: Museus de Sitges
Of all the images of Santiago Rusiñol hanging on the walls of the Cau Ferrat, we can find at least six by Ramon Casas, three by Ramon Pichot, one photograph by Napoleón, a framed newspaper clipping, a silhouette of Rusiñol’s bust cut out in black paper over a white background, and a portrait from the Académie de la Palette period by M. T. Muller. This work is by Ramon Pichot. It was located in Rusiñol’s bedroom, and it is a charcoal portrait of the owner of Cau Ferrat. He is still youthful, with black, wavy hair and with a beard that merges into the knot which can be glimpsed under his coat, which is buttoned up to the top. Rusiñol’s left hand is in his pocket and his right hand, with tapered fingers like a pianist’s, is resting on his chest, the thumb hidden among the buttons of his coat. It is reminiscent of the famous El Greco portrait known as Nobleman with His Hand on His Chest which Santiago Rusiñol had copied shortly earlier in the Prado Museum. The author of the portrait, Ramon Pichot, was ten years younger than Rusiñol and was a regular at Cau Ferrat during its peak years. (Museu del Cau Ferrat, Sitges, 32137)
