Self Portrait Drawing

Most of my self portraits are created in a time I don't have a lot of references to go by, so I end up looking into a mirror to do some studying. The past several years I have just pulling out the marker and just drawing, and then adding in the shading later. Posted this piece online and it didn't take much time before It went to a good home. I still wonder what captivated the viewer? My main focus was emphasizing between the light and dark, and trying to flow the lines in a fluid manner. This was a also in the same time frame of experimenting with a larger piece of work, and adding small fine detail into the piece of artwork later on. Such as the detail in the glasses.
