Wide Crossing
2018 · Digital
Dimensions (33.8 x 33.97 cm)
In ‘Drawings of Nagoya’, the repetition of geometric form in the concrete and wood architecture, paired with nostalgic, 90s-bubble-esque clean pastels, reveal the charm and comfort of Japan’s 3rd-largest city. “Wide Crossing” is located in west Nagoya, just a few blocks south of Nagoya Station. Buses, taxis, cars and pedestrians usually flood this wide crossing, but just for a moment it's emptied of bustle. Rest your eyes and let your imagination wander in this soft slice of citypop.

About James Stewart
I am from the US and I lived in Nagoya, Japan for over 12 years. In that time I purified my own drawings through the thick filter of Japan. It changes you, in good ways and bittersweet ways. I learned tattooing. I followed the flow of Art Nouveau upriver until I found the source.
