Waleska Solórzano, also known as Waleska Del Sol, works as a Venezuelan artistic scholar, educator, and writer, who fuses her creative language and academic research within her photographic practice. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Waleska immigrated to the United States at the age of three and lived in oscillation between Caracas and Miami before moving with her parents to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. As part of the Venezuelan diaspora, or what she calls “the Venespora”, Waleska conceptualizes themes of displacement and identity formation and queerness in her artistic practice. She received her MA in Philosophy with a concentration in Ethics and Public Affairs from George Mason University and has presented her research on Afro-Latinidad and the Venespora at various conferences in the United States. Her artworks have been exhibited at the Bolivarian Hall of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Cornell University, Dupont Underground, Eaton D.C., Framer’s Workshop, and No Kings Collective with Stop Motion D.C. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Romance Studies at Cornell University.
