Fragment 1.1
2020 · (mixed media) clothing scraps, tiles, old photographs, handkerchief, spray, wooden scraps, sewing kit, on canvas
Dimensions 130 × 90 cm
The only way for my grandma to look back into the past is by the old photographs she has kept. However, my grandma started to realise she can’t remember the stories behind these photographs anymore. For the parts inside of the photo that my grandma doesn’t remember, I scanned each of them and tore out the parts, rearranged them into a new scenery. Through this process, I remembered grandma felt so uneasy and sadden. The handkerchief that my grandma used to sell at her small department store, I used them from kindergarten to high school. When the store was close because my grandma fell down, these items were left untouched inside of the storage. I took the handkerchief and cut them into pieces like how I tore the photos into the parts that grandma has already forgotten. Each colour and fragment represents the different warmth and emotion that my family has given to me.
