HP Sauce
2011 · Newspaper Mosaic and paint on wood
Dimensions 30.5 × 30.5 cm
Created for a group project for Burning Man 2011, this artwork was intentionally burned along with the rest of the project, titled 'SCARAB'. It was created by artists from the Los Angeles area, and was placed as one of the Circle of Regional Effigies around the man. The project resembled a taco truck, and each artist created a plaque to represent their city or neighborhood, as LA is a conurbation of many cities and areas. I represented Highland Park, one of my favorite neighborhoods and my home for 10 years (2008-2018). I often referred to the area as HP/ HP Sauce, though some residents know it as HLP. I used the HP Sauce logo (a steak sauce popular in the UK) and swapped London landmarks for Highland Park ones, including: Chicken Boy, Highland Theatre, Burbank Middle School's murals, the solar panels at the Audubon in Debs Park and a Route 66 sign, as well as a tiny taco truck. Like my other newspaper mosaics, almost all of the newspaper came from LA Weeklys collected between 2010-2017. Though the original burned in 2011, the piece lives on in a digital format.
