La Pensée
1876-77 · Oil on canvas
Dimensions 66 × 55.5 cm
Collection: Doria Collection
The subject of this painting is Nina Lopez, who was one of Renoir's favorite professional models which implies that this wasn't a commission. The title "the Thought" wasn't established by Renoir himself, but rather by critics and owners, based on the evocation of this painting. It was part of the collection of Count Armand Doria until 1899 and is now at The Barber Institute of Fine Arts.
