Les Grands Boulevards
1875 · oil on canvas
Dimensions 52.1 × 63.5 cm
Collection: Doria Collection
This painting, maybe Renoir's most famous view of Paris, shows one of the new, fashionable, haussmanian districts. The bright colors, characteristic of impressionism, and the very perceptible brush strokes, transmit a strong sense of movement, enhancing the feeling of busyness and giving the sensation that even the viewer is passing in a hurry in front of the scene, immersing him in a hectic and ever-changing modern city, perceiving only a glance, an impression of the world around them. This painting was in the collection of Count Armand Doria until 1899, it is now in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
