Mother and Child
1860s · Oil on Wood
Dimensions 40.5 × 28.1 cm
Collection: Doria Collection
While small (original dimension : 32.4 x 22.5 cm), this charming painting had a great success among Corot's friends, to the point that two of them, Constant Dutilleux and Charles Desavary, made copy of it. Corot himself made variations on the composition. First gifted to one of his patron who provided him with a quiet studio, Alfred Cléophas, it found its way into the collection of Count Armand Doria and eventually got into the H. O. Havemeyer Collection. Havemeyer.
