Portrait of Julia
1908 · Oil on canvas
Dimensions 160 × 98 cm
"The portrait occupies an important place in the output of Kazimierz Stabrowski and the images of his wife are among his greatest achievements. The artist masterfully shows the psychology of the portrayed and the mood of the end of the century. Stabrowski met his future wife, Julia Janiszewska (1869-1941), a talented sculptor educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. A year after their marriage, in 1903, the spouses moved to Warsaw, where they made efforts to open the School of Fine Arts." [Renata Higersberger]
