St. Anne
1916 · Pochoir with gouache on paper
Dimensions 61.5 × 40.5 cm
Collection: Art Whisperer
Costume design for the St. Anne in the never realized Léonide Massine Ballet-Mysteria Russian ballet known as "Liturgie". The ballet was to follow an unusual religious theme based on the passion with choreography designed around the artistic direction of the costume and stage designs. While the ballet was never performed, Goncharova did publish a folio of some of the costume designs featuring limited edition pochoir prints. The Liturgie prints show Goncharova's love for eastern iconography even though she was a leading member of the Russian Avant-Garde.
