Study of a woman for The Death of Sardanapalus
1835 · Oil on canvas
Dimensions 40 × 33.5 cm
Collection: Doria Collection
This head of a woman may have been part of Delacroix's preparations for "The Death of Sardanapalus", one of his most famous and controversial paintings, although it wasn't used in the final result. It was part of the collection of Count Armand Doria until 1899 and is now in the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.
