Egon Schiele

1917 · Oil on canvas

Dimensions 100 × 170 cm

Collection: Art Whisperer

The Embrace by Egon Schiele still maintains the gaunt gnarled bodies of the two lovers however the scene seems more loving and less desperate than his earlier works. The composition is believed to be influenced by fellow Austrian painter Oskar Kokoschka's "Bride of the wind" which was painted just several years before. The image for The Embrace has been made openly accessible by the Belvedere Gallery in Vienna, Austria where the painting can currently be viewed.
