Poker
1902 · Oil on cardboard
Dimensions 52 × 67 cm
Collection: Art Whisperer
Felix Vallotton married into a family with very important connections into the art world in 1899. Vollotton's two new brother in laws were prominent art dealers and soon after the marriage they began buying and selling paintings from the artist which often included paintings of their families. Volloton's relationship with his family would be short lived and by 1903 he would refuse to sell his work to his in laws. His two brothers are seated at the distant poker table in "Poker" no doubt reflecting the distance he felt towards the men at the time of the painting.
