The brilliant blues and greens in the seaside town of Jávea were inspiring to Sorolla and allowed him to use a much broader and bright palette than he normally used in coastal paintings. In 1905 Joaquín Sorolla spent the summer in Jávea and produced a series of paintings using swimmers as a pretext for his experimentation of light upon the colorful swirling waters.
